Tails Entwined

Extracts from a project I worked on for the MA in Sequential Illustration at the University of Brighton. I deconstructed the fairytale Rapunzel, using themes and plot structure to make a new story. To summaries: An evil professor creates a monkey-bird hybrid called Rococo. The Panther, Prince of the Forest, falls in love with her haunting song and they plot to be together.

'In the great wild forest sat two great friends,
perched together like two bookends.
One was a monkey and one was a bird.
Never was there a friendship more absurd...'

'Out in the forest the prince of the night
slipped through the trees in the moon’s blue light.
This silent panther, agile and strong,
stopped in his tracks when he heard her song...'

'Hot tears fell on cold black fur
as the panther mustered up a purr.
“My Prince I’ve found you!” his angel said.
It was Rococo. She was not dead!
The pair rejoiced at last together,
tails entwined, fur and feather...'
